NUTRIOSE® was recognized as a prebiotic ingredient in China by the "Public Nutrition Improvement OLIGO+ Project” mid 2008.

The aim of OLIGO+ is to increase the intake of prebiotic in China to improve intestinal microflora imbalance, which has been identified as a key factor for sub-health.

This project is under the responsibility of the PNDC1 and was launched early 2008.

According to a recently revised definition by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), a prebiotic is "a non-viable food component that confers a health benefit on the host associated with modulation of the microbiota" (FAO, 2007).

Focusing on the physiological effects observed after prebiotic ingestion, NUTRIOSE® has been studied according to the definition (Woods & Gorbach 2001), which characterizes a prebiotic by :
  •      an increase in “beneficial bacteria” and/or a decrease in “harmful bacteria”
  •      a decrease in intestinal pH
  •      production of short chain fatty acids (SCFAs)
  •       and changes in bacterial enzyme concentrations

NUTRIOSE® has been shown to display all these prebiotic effects through colonic fermentation in many studies, carried out in vitro and in vivo, in animals and in humans.

The slow and progressive fermentation of NUTRIOSE® 06 is in contrast to some other soluble fibers where rapid fermentation may cause digestive discomfort such as bloating, flatulence and diarrhea.

In conclusion, from as little as 8g/day, NUTRIOSE® 06 offers prebiotic effects, outstanding tolerance and remarkable technical properties for healthier and tasty recipes.
