2011
Roquette at the 9th European Symposium on Saliva
Roquette, as well as Wrigley and GABA international, was a sponsor of the 9th Saliva Symposium, held at Egmond aan Zee, the Netherlands, on 22-25 May 2011.
Valerie Macioce, Nutrition and Communication Project Manager at Roquette, gave a talk to present results of a recent clinical trial conducted on maltitol-SweetPearl® in chewing-gums.
The study aimed at evaluating the effect of the chewing-gum form (with or without coating) and of the type of sweetener used (maltitol, xylitol or sucrose) on salivary parameters in the context of dental caries prevention. Results showed that maltitol and xylitol induced similar beneficial effects on salivary flow, salivary pH and buffering capacity. No difference was observed between slab (without coating) and pellet (with coating) chewing-gums.
The symposium dealt with different aspects of salivary research in dentistry and medicine. Conferences and posters discussed topics such as the oral microbiome, proteomics in saliva, application of saliva as a diagnostic fluid and the effect of saliva on food and taste experience.
